Standing for Truth

– Independent – Fundamental – Bible Believing – Soul Winning –

Baptist – Originally “Baptist” was not a name that people chose for themselves; rather opponents gave them the name because Baptists rejected infant baptism and baptized believers only. The easiest way to describe a Baptist Church today is by the use of this acrostic.

Bible is our only rule for faith and practice (2 Peter 1:21)

Autonomy of the local church (Matthew 18:15-17)

Priesthood for all believers (1 Peter 2:9)

Two Ordinances: Baptism (Acts 2:41) and the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-25)

Individual soul liberty (Romans 14:5, 12-14)

Saved, baptized church membership (Acts 2:47)

Two Offices: Pastor (Acts 20:28) and Deacon (1 Timothy 3:13)

Separation of church and state (Matthew 22:21; Acts 5:28)

What does it mean to be
Independent, Fundamental, Bible Believing, and Soul Winning?

Independent – The governing power of Vernon Forest Baptist Church rests entirely with the body of members of this local church. We are a congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant, having no ecclesiastical connection with any other church or organization.

Fundamental – We are a Christian fellowship that desires to reach out in love and compassion to people, believing and defending the whole Bible as the absolute, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. We believe in the unqualified acceptance of, and obedience to, the Scriptures.

Bible Believing – The Bible is God’s Word to men. It is complete, without error, and is our sole guide and standard for faith and living.

Soul Winning – The Bible teaches that apart from salvation through Christ man is lost and bound for an eternity in hell (Matthew 18:3; Luke 13:3). having compassion for those who are lost, and desiring to obey the Bible (Matthew 28:19-20), we earnestly seek opportunities to share God’s salvation message
